“How to” grow vegetables
 

Wednesday 10th March at 2:00pm *Free*

With emphasis on some slightly unusual vegetables, we recommend celeriac, Self blanching celery, land cress, pak choi and many more..  Go on, be adventurous! We offer advice, hints and tips on how to grow and care for these and lots more crops.  This is a free talk and you will receive a free cup of tea voucher at the end of the session for use in our restaurants.

   
So You Want To Be A Beekeeper
 

Thursday 11th March at 2.00pm *Free*

An introduction to beekeeping. Fred Swift ‘The Wiltshire Beekeeper’ will tell you all about the Beekeeping course we will be running for seven weeks starting on Thursday 15th April in the evenings. The cost of the course will be £45. The course will cover all aspects of keeping bees and producing your own honey.

   
“Have a go” Children’s mothering Sunday planted arrangements
 
Saturday 13th & Sunday 14th March 10:00am - 4:00pm

Come along and make a spring planted arrangement for your mother this weekend.  Each child leaves with the arrangement they have personally made especially for their ‘mum’.    Everyone is welcome to join our workshops throughout the day where we will supply all equipment and materials for a fee of £4.99.
   
“How to” grow your own top fruit and soft fruit

There is no greater pleasure than producing your very own fruit from your garden.  It is surprising how quickly newly planted apples, pears and especially plum trees will start producing fruit – even in the smallest of gardens room can usually be found to plant a tree or two. Rasberries, Gooseberries, Blackcurrants all quickly start producing fruit and are well worth growing!
This is a free talk and you will receive a free cup of tea voucher at the end of the session for use in our restaurants.

Saturday 20th & Sunday 21st March 10:00am – 4:00pm *Free*

Now is an ideal time to plant your Pumpkin seeds and we will supply them to you free of charge.  Grow them into larger plants ready to be planted in the garden in May or June.  In the Autumn, bring back your big pumpkin for our annual Pumpkin competition at Halloween! *Each child leaves with potted seeds, ready to be grown plus more bits and pieces.  Everyone is welcome to join our free workshops throughout the day where we will supply all equipment and materials free of charge.

Tomatoes, cucumbers, aubergines, peppers etc...  Hints and tips on how to get the best out of your greenhouse.  What varieties to choose, how to grow each one, watering systems to minimise time consuming chores, How to use mini greenhouses are just some of the topics covered in this popular talk.  This is a free talk and you will receive a free cup of tea voucher at the end of the session for use in our restaurants.

Saturday 27th & Sunday 28th March 10:00am – 4:00pm *Free*

Now is an ideal time to plant your Pumpkin seeds and we will supply them to you free of charge.  Grow them into larger plants ready to be planted in the garden in May or June.  In the Autumn, bring back your big pumpkin for our annual Pumpkin competition at Halloween! *Each child leaves with potted seeds, ready to be grown plus more bits and pieces.  Everyone is welcome to join our free workshops throughout the day where we will supply all equipment and materials free of charge.
   
“How to” plant tubs and baskets to brighten your home
 
Wednesday 31st 10:30 - 12:00pm & 1:30 – 4:00pm *Free*

On going planting demonstration during the morning and afternoon (in our bedding plant area, so wear warm clothing).  Either watch and learn or you can choose plants and have your own personal tub or basket made up with your choice of plants.  You just pay for the plants and basket.  Compost, moss and planting are all free.

Narcissus, Fritillaria, Tulipa, and Iris

In this one-day workshop we will paint some of the more unusual flowering bulbs to be found at the Garden Centre.
We will explore the use of watercolour and coloured pencils to show pattern and textures, with the aim of providing everyone with an enjoyable and rewarding day. 
Please bring your own materials - watercolours, coloured pencils, brushes, and a large sketchbook and/or watercolour pad.  Drawing boards, botanical subject matter and a limited stock of spare materials will be provided for use during the day.

10.30am - 4.30pm  :  £35

The tutor is Rosalind Robinson. 
Rosalind has worked as a professional artist and mural painter for more than 25 years. She has studied botanical painting on courses at the RHS Kew Gardens, the Chelsea Physic Garden and is a member of the Bath Society of Botanical Artists.

Tuesday 18th May 10:30am - 4:30pm

In this one-day workshop we will concentrate on the all-important skills of observational drawing.
You will explore the use of different grades of pencil and conte to show line and tone, discover how to make interesting compositions and how to light your subject effectively. 
Please bring your own materials – 2H, HB, B and 2B pencils and a large sketchbook, (at least A4, preferably A3). 
Drawing boards, botanical subject matter and a limited stock of spare materials will be provided for use during the day.
