Sciadopitys verticillata is a rather slow-growing evergreen conifer that grows up to 20m, with dense whorls of dark green, linear leaves 12cm in length, and inconspicuous flowers followed by ovoid cones 8cm in length. It is commonly known as the Japanese Umbrella pine and is endemic to Japan.
